A ghost story with a twist

A touch of whimsey to set off a decent 'what happened to her' sort of mystery.
A woman- Beth, seeking a change in her life has an Eat, Pray, Love moment, and divorces her husband, quits her job and moves to a little enclave in Maine to paint. A getting back to her first love sort of thing. Anyway, on her first night she sees an apparition that appears as a firefly with the ability to move through solid objects. As Beth pursues it she finds a secluded beach where the apparition seems to hang out, and in so doing discover the long hidden diary of a teenaged girl who disappeared decades before.
And the mystery is on. What happened to young Katherine? Beth is driven to find out, egged on by the firefly.
This starts out a little cheesy, but the author manages to avoid a major pitfall of having Beth and the firefly spirit of the dead girl become best friends. Keeping the mystery behind the firefly is what made this story work for me.
Wrting is decent but not inspired.

Characterization is a little above average and what will keep you clicking the kindle.
Bottom line, free or a buck or two, its well worth the time and money. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Book, I Really Enjoyed Reading It!

Lovely story that has great compassion and heart. It could easily become a Hallmark movie. The path of the story is like trying to go through a maze, every corner offered new surprises and newly made friends, and destinies enterprising into a nice series of relationships beginning and ending. I especially enjoyed the ball of light, Angel-- muse. Sweet endings abound. I'm glad you wrote " Firefly Beach" Thank you, Meira Pientermann for deciding to finish your book, fairytales do come true! Even sad parts can turn out happily.

Sucked in in spite of myself

After reading the first few chapters, I wasn't sure I would make it to the finish -- the exposition was slow and a bit clunky (why give a page full of details about the boats in the harbor, when even the boat the character lived on wasn't particularly important to the story?). But before I knew it I was intrigued enough to keep going, wanting to follow the tenacious main character to the end of the mystery.
A couple of aspects of this book struck me as false, and kept the story from being a smooth ride. First, the supernatural element. The titular "firefly" seemed contrived and wasn't really needed -- Beth could have stumbled onto the secret in other ways. Second, the aspect of her life as an artist. Maybe as an amateur artist I was more picky than most would be, but to have a character pull out three paintings created in high school, decide on the spot to abandon her accounting career and paint, and then sell the paintings immediately...well, it's just not done that way.
Still, bottom line: it was worth the three or four hours I spent reading it, and definitely worth the price I paid as a Kindle special.
